Floreo Joins Forces with the City University of New York to Deliver Break Through Tech New York's Summer Guild Program

Addressing Equity and Access

The tech industry has long faced criticism for its lack of diversity and Guild is a program designed to support women, Black, Latinx, and gender expansive students to build confidence and practical principles in a supportive and empowering environment.

The Guild is designed to usher a diverse new generation of leaders into diverse technical careers, providing students with a low-risk, high-reward chance to explore tech and gain hands-on experience tackling a real-life challenge tailored to students’ local community. With the help and support of Floreo’s network of tech professionals, students entering their first or second year will develop their own mock websites and dive into the essentials of coding, product design, and user experience research. The program is tailored for individuals with no prior experience in these areas, ensuring a level playing field for all attendees.

The initiative aligns with Break Through Tech’s mission, which works at the intersection of academia and industry to propel more underrepresented women into tech education and careers. Tech Equity's role in this collaboration enhances the visibility and success of historically underrepresented groups in the tech sector, directly tackling the fundamental issues that contribute to the loss of technical talent in both the higher education and workforce segments of the broader technology ecosystem.

"Empowering students with the skills and confidence to pursue technology careers is more critical now than ever," said Cameron Flowers, CEO at Floreo Labs. "Our partnership with CUNY and Break Through Tech is a testament to our commitment to making tech education accessible and inclusive. By removing traditional barriers to entry, we are paving the way for a more diverse and innovative future in tech for everyone."

The partnership between Floreo Labs and CUNY represents a powerful model for how academic institutions and innovation labs can collaborate to effect substantial societal change through education.

Deadline to apply is Friday, June 14th, 2024, 11:59pm EST.
